The tobacco giant issued a stark warning about lookah rig

by linbin on May 26, 2020
Tobacco companies, long considered the number one enemy of public health, have suddenly defined themselves as protectors of consumer welfare in the digital age.

They issued the strongest warnings in the fledgling lookah rig industry, even harsher than the familiar, deadly cigarette warnings. The tobacco industry has left its critics confused and deeply suspicious.

Altria group, the maker of lookah glass rig, issued a warning, in part, that read: "nicotine is addictive and addictive, and is highly toxic when inhaled, in contact with skin, or swallowed."

In addition, the camel's manufacturer, Reynolds America, said the product is not suitable for "patients with unstable heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes; Or people who are at risk for heart disease or who are taking medication for depression or asthma."

The content appears on tobacco companies' lookah rig packages, part of a fast-growing industry tobacco companies are manipulating to dominate.

The warnings, which are entirely voluntary and are seen by some as an attempt by tobacco companies to reduce legal liability or improve a company's reputation, often go beyond modest warnings, silences or positive statements from smaller lookah rig manufacturers.

Altria, for example, is rolling out warnings of more than 100 words across the country on nicotine packs for MarkTen lookah rig. The label says the product is not suitable for people with heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, and is not suitable for children. The label also says nicotine can cause dizziness, nausea and stomach pain, and can worsen asthma.

"When I saw the label, I almost fell out of my chair," said Dr. Robert k. jackler of Stanford medical school, who led the study of cigarette and lookah rig ads. MarkTen also warns that lookah rig is not a smoking cessation product, and the same warning appears on Renault's Vuse product.

"Is this part of the noble cause of the public health movement? Or a cynical business strategy? I suspect the latter, "Dr. Jackler said.

Experts who have studied the behavior of tobacco companies for years say lookah dab rig, they strongly suspect several motives, but most importantly, the lookah rig warning is a low-risk way for tobacco companies to protect themselves from future lawsuits and, more broadly, to show accountability, openness and candor. By doing so, experts say, the tobacco giants are reaching out to consumers and regulators to gain the legitimacy they have craved for decades. Moreover, they look more responsible than the smaller lookah rig firms that tried to topple them.
